This Privacy Policy explains how NovaFocus ("we", "us", or "our") handles your information when you use the NovaFocus macOS application and this website. We built NovaFocus with privacy as a core principle: your data stays on your devices.
1. Information We Collect
The NovaFocus app collects no personal information. We do not require an account, email address, or any form of registration to use the app. All data you create in NovaFocus — tasks, timers, templates, history, and statistics — is stored exclusively in a local database (CoreData) on your Mac.
2. Local Data Storage
By default, all NovaFocus data is stored locally on your Mac using Apple's CoreData framework. This includes:
- Task names and durations
- Task templates you have created
- Timer history and session logs
- Productivity statistics
- App preferences and settings
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync.
3. iCloud Sync (Optional)
If you choose to enable iCloud sync in NovaFocus settings, your task data (tasks, templates, history, and statistics) will be synchronized via Apple's iCloud infrastructure across your other Macs signed in with the same Apple ID.
This sync is handled entirely by Apple. NovaFocus has no access to your iCloud data and operates no servers. Apple's privacy policy governs how iCloud handles your data: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Device-specific settings (themes, sounds) are not synced.
4. Mac App Store
NovaFocus is distributed through the Apple Mac App Store. Apple may collect purchase information, device identifiers, and usage statistics in accordance with their own privacy policy. NovaFocus receives no personal data from Apple about individual users.
5. No Analytics or Tracking
NovaFocus does not:
- Use any third-party analytics SDK
- Track your behaviour within the app
- Send crash reports to external servers
- Display advertisements
- Sell or share your data with any third party
6. This Website
The novafocus.app website does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics scripts. No personal data is collected when you browse this site unless you submit the contact form.
If you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message solely to respond to your enquiry. This information is not stored in any database and is not shared with third parties.
7. Data Security
Because NovaFocus stores all data locally on your Mac, it inherits the security protections of macOS — including FileVault disk encryption if you have it enabled. Optional iCloud sync data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple.
8. Children's Privacy
NovaFocus is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
